19 Cornwall Street was redeveloped by Willmott Dixon Interiors into a smart-enabled, net zero carbon in operation office building in the heart of Birmingham’s business district.
The refurbishment delivered a new reception space designed to function as both an arrival and event area, alongside upgraded wellbeing facilities including 74 cycle spaces, showers and changing facilities, 150 secure parking spaces and 24 electric vehicle charging points. The scheme also incorporated approximately 4,000 sq ft of rooftop solar PV.
The project was recognised for its retrofit-led approach, prioritising the retention and reuse of existing materials to reduce embodied carbon. This included raised access flooring reclaimed from Canary Wharf, which was processed on site and reintegrated into the building.
A fabric-first strategy, combined with all-electric building systems and rooftop solar PV, contributed to predicted operational energy performance approximately 66% better than the UK office average. The completed scheme also targeted EPC A, BREEAM Excellent and NABERS UK 5.0 Design Reviewed certifications.
The washroom fit-out was designed to reflect the building’s contemporary specification and premium finish. A combination of Select Range IPS panelling and Flush 44 cubicles was installed to create a cohesive and high-quality aesthetic throughout the facilities.
The full-height Flush 44 cubicles were paired with Select Range IPS panelling manufactured from 20mm moisture-resistant core material, finished and edged in Slate Grey to create a refined and durable finish. Solid Grade Laminate was also incorporated within the vanity units, providing enhanced durability and water resistance in high-moisture environments while maintaining the project’s clean, modern appearance.
