This fresh and innovative investment is a new 11-16 secondary school and will follow the same successful model for secondary education that has been judged as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. The new free school development includes a two-storey teaching building with IT-rich classrooms, science labs, a drama studio, a music room and state-of-the-art classrooms and an indoor sports hall. Excelsior are proud to have worked alongside BAM construction to install a bespoke washroom system, perfect for this exciting project.
The Challenge
Excelsior were employed to install a washroom system suitable for use in gender neutral open toilet spaces, whilst also ensuring high durability and functionality for heavy use. Open-plan toilets boast a host of advantages in the school environment, namely being more inclusive by avoiding gender specific spaces, and creating more safe spaces within schools by removing hidden corners and enclosed spaces. Working on the project since 2024, BAM have now handed over and the school are ready to welcome Higham Lane North Academy’s first Year 7 pupils in September 2025.
The Solution
Our Skyline Range was the perfect solution for this busy, versatile environment. With floor-to-ceiling full height systems and overhead panel, this range provides ideal privacy for shower cubicles. Here, our solid grade laminate core option is great for a wet shower room within this high-traffic changing area. It is durable and hard wearing, even in the toughest of environments. Excelsior are able to provide a full fit out in changing areas, including shower cubicles, WC cubicles or IPS for self contained toilet spaces, benches and lockers.
