Excelsior works with high-pressure laminate (HPL) for cubicle and IPS duct panelling.

High-pressure laminate offers durability and versatility in high-traffic environments with a high risk of vandalism, making it a suitable material for office washrooms, school cubicles, and washrooms in the healthcare industry.

The low maintenance requirements of HPL cubicles make them easy to keep clean and their water resistance ensures durability even in damp environments. (Please note, HPL is not waterproof.)

We further offer antibacterial HPL – a great solution for healthcare environments, providing a hygienic and low-maintenance approach to your washroom.

Excelsior is a highly established cubicle manufacturer, providing tailored washroom solutions. We work closely with architects to actualise designs, supplying and installing quality washroom cubicles and IPS duct panelling, plus vanity units, wash troughs, changing areas, and more.

What is HPL?

High-pressure laminate (or HPL) is made from decorative paper bonded onto a chipboard or MDF substrate, consisting of layers of kraft paper impregnated with melamine resin. Excelsior offers HPL cubicles in an extensive number of colours, patterns, textures and effects. Our HPL is finished with a colour match or contrast 2mm ABS edge detail.

Advantages and Disadvantages of HPL

HPL offers a wide range of benefits for washrooms:

  • Minimal maintenance and easy-to-clean
  • Suitable for high-traffic environments
  • Moisture and water resistant
  • Stylish and innovative design
  • Excellent wear resistance
  • Low heat conduction
  • Versatile application

HPL is built for durability in a number of environments, while boasting low maintenance requirements, making it a great all-round material.

However, there are some drawbacks to consider. This includes a low resistance to bacteria, plus chemicals, corrosion, fungus and excessive amounts of water. Where this is critical, our antibacterial HPL or Solid Grade Laminate may be suitable.

How Do Other Materials Compare?

In addition to HPL, Excelsior can provide melamine-faced chipboard (MFC) and Solid Grade Laminate (SGL) material for cubicles and IPS duct panelling. Our material range ensures we have a suitable medium to meet the requirements of your environment, users, and budget.

Melamine Faced Chipboard

Melamine-faced chipboard is manufactured from a 19mm wood composite chipboard core, to which melamine-coated paper is then bonded.

This is a budget-friendly, durable, and easy-to-maintain material with low maintenance requirements.

However, MFC does not offer the same durability or versatility as HPL. MFC has the potential to warp or discolour when exposed to heat; it further has low resistance to impact and moisture, meaning it is best suited to dry environments and environments with a low risk of vandalism.

Solid Grade Laminate

Solid-grade laminate is made from high-quality paper impregnated with resins for a strong and hard-wearing material.

It has similar advantages to HPL, such as its durability and suitability to a wide range of environments, including high-traffic spaces. However, SGL is a denser, self-supporting panel which offers the highest level of performance. This makes SGL suitable for wet environments, including leisure centres and sports clubs.

Because of its premium nature, SGL has the highest price point.

HPL Typical Layout Panel Dimensions

Excelsior works directly with architects to create and manufacture bespoke washrooms. As a part of this, we utilise BIM (Building Information Modelling) to bring designs to life.

BIM enables clients to digitally ‘walk through’ the washroom prior to design approval and manufacturing processes. This has several advantages.

BIM helps clients visualise the washroom layout and appearance; this stimulates design ideas while enhancing productivity by reducing waste and saving time during initial consultative stages.
